Houseboat days in the Kerala backwaters
Two nights on a houseboat, monsoon showers, coconut everything, and our first family attempt at catching a fish.
This is a sample trip. Replace it with one of your own. See the README for how.
Kerala in the monsoon is green in a way photos never quite capture.
Life on the houseboat
The crew cooked every meal on board: fish curry, red rice, banana chips still warm. The kids spent hours on the deck counting ducks.
Favourite memoryThe whole family going silent as the houseboat drifted past a temple at dusk.
Tips if you're going with kids
- Monsoon is quieter and cheaper; rain usually comes in short bursts.
- Ask for a houseboat with railings on the upper deck if your kids are small.
- Carry mosquito repellent and a few indoor games for rainy afternoons.
